Blowup algebras

The theory of Rees algebras or, in a more comprehensive sense, of blowup algebras is at the heart of commutative algebra and plays an important role in algebraic geometry, geometric modeling, and computer aided design. In this talk we will survey applications of blowup algebras in commutative algebra and other fields as well as open questions about them. We will explain some of the methods used to approach these problems.
